Additional Information on the Area

Kaatsheuvel:

Kaatsheuvel is a small village in the province of Noord Brabant, where cosiness is written with a capital C. It falls under the Municipality of Loon op Zand. The area is very beautiful with many meadows, heathlands, forests and the famous Loonse and Drunense Duinen. Perhaps less well-known, but the landscape is very beautiful. It is a “Slagenlandschap”, which was created by the extraction of raised bog and land consolidation. Watercourses such as the “Oude Lei” and the “Oude Vaart” are traditional waterways by which farmers transported their peat. Also, in the south of the municipality, the landscape “Loonsche Land” has been restored to its former glory dating back to 1850. In many places you can walk and cycle, but it is certainly worthwhile making a car trip through the villages and countryside.

Things to do:

While you are there, why not stay for the day and visit the beautiful animal park “De Beekse Bergen“, or the “Fairytale Forest and Amusement Park ” De Efteling“.  Also worth a visit are Loevestein Castle, the Textile Museum in Tilburg and Kamp Vught.  You can also enjoy shopping in ‘s Hertogenbosch – and taste the delicious “Bossche Bollen”. Huis ter Heide has beautiful walking areas where dogs must be kept on a leash. There is a route in the Duinen where dogs can run free.  This website has all the information about Brabant www.visitbrabant.com.

Restaurants:

A recommendation for lunch, dinner or a snack is Borrelrestaurant James in Sprang-Capelle. Hospitality is very important there and they serve specialities of Brabant.
